2025 has started with big news in the professional Counter-Strike scene: Nikola “NiKo” Kovac, one of the most colorful players in the history of the discipline, has officially left G2 Esports. The Bosnian esports player’s four years with the organization left a lasting mark, but now he’s ready for a new challenge – NiKo will reportedly join the Falcons team. The move came as a surprise to many, given NiKo’s key role in G2’s success. However, the roster changes hint at a new direction for the organization.
Nikola Kovac was born on February 16, 1997 in the small town of Bratunac, Bosnia and Herzegovina. His passion for gaming began as a child, when he spent hours playing in an internet cafe owned by his family. It was there that nine-year-old NiKo first encountered Counter-Strike 1.6. In 2012, with the release of CS:GO, he quickly switched to the new version of the game, anticipating changes in the esports scene.
His rise began in 2015, when he joined mousesports. Even facing language barriers and temporary stay on the bench, NiKo managed to prove his incredible level. Soon, his talent was noticed by FaZe Clan, who acquired him for a record $500,000. As part of FaZe, he won 11 titles, including prestigious international tournaments, and earned 7 MVP awards. However, the coveted victory at the Major remained elusive.
In 2020, NiKo moved to G2 Esports, where he joined his cousin Nemanja “huNter-” Kovács. This move marked the beginning of a new chapter in his career.
Over the course of four years in G2, NiKo has become a key figure in the team, demonstrating consistent play at the highest level. Among his achievements, we can highlight victories in major tournaments:
Each of these titles confirmed NiKo’s status as one of the best players in the world of CS2. His precision, tactical thinking, and ability to win clutches made him a true icon of Counter-Strike. Even at 27 years old, he remains a formidable force on the server. However, during his entire time in G2, the team was never able to win the main trophy of the scene – victory in the Major tournament. This was one of the reasons for the roster change.
